This show started out as being about atrocities committed against women simply because they are women. As I worked it widened to include some of the more emotional aspects of womanhood, such as being a mother, a wife, and the struggle that so many women have with body image. Some of these images are uncomfortable to look at; in my mind they all are, but so much more horrifying to live, or not live, through. We tell ourselves that we have come so far from the atrocities of torture devices and witch trials, and in some ways we have. In others, we've not advanced at all. Women are still killed, mutilated, tormented, abused, ridiculed and marginalized every day, for no other reason than that they are female. I, for one, can't get behind that. Think about it, and if it bothers you, do something about it. Half of the proceeds from the sale of any of the work in this show will be split between The Desert Flower Foundation, and a local battered women's shelter.
